Seco, Ky.

In Seco, Ky. where my Mom's side of the family is from my Uncle Al lives on property that used to be a coal mine. It was reclaimed by my Great Grandfather Ted, a coal miner, who planted white pine trees all over the property around 60 years ago. In the late 90s the pine trees got the beetle blite and they were all dying standing up. He began cutting them down and making use of them. Recently he built a cabin by himself, on the foundation of an old coal building, out of the trees that my Great Grandfather planted.

unrelated shot of what must be the result of mountaintop removal.

There is something that feels very reminiscent about these photos. Like even though I've never been to Kentucky, I feel like I have. Maybe it just reminds me of the small town where I grew up. Your work is beautiful!
